60-year-old guard arraigned in court for stealing in church

For stealing a piano and a plasma television from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Peculiar Parish, Ayobo, Lagos, where he works, 60-year-old guard Emmanuel Onakoya has been charged in court.

On July 7, the suspect was taken before an Ikeja magistrates court and charged with perpetrating the crime on June 19.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Funmi Akinleye, the defendant told the church’s pastor that burglars broke into the building while he was away.

The pastor verified the claim to be false and then reported the event to the police. The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N100,000 with two sureties in the same amount, and the case was continued until September 20 by the magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fajana.
