Rev. Fr. Udo Peter and Rev. Fr. Philemon Oboh, two Catholic priests kidnapped in Edo State, have been released.

Security operatives rescued the priests unharmed hours after Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, directed security chiefs to do so.

On Saturday, July 2, Rev. Fr. Peter of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Uromi, and Rev. Fr. Oboh of St. Joseph Retreat Center, Ugboha in Esan South-East, were kidnapped along the Benin-Auchi Expressway between Ehor and Iruekpen.

Meanwhile, against the backdrop of an increase in kidnappings in the state, Comrade Shuaibu declared the government’s intention to restructure its security architecture after a series of meetings with security stakeholders.

Shaibu also assured Edo residents that the government will not back down from its massive and aggressive war declared against common criminals and enemies of the people who have caused unrest in the state.
