Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua is a Nigerian-British heavyweight professional boxer. He is known for his African descent from Nigeria. Anthony Joshua is a two-time former unified world heavyweight champion. He also held the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles from 2015 to 2016.

Early Life
Anthony Joshua was born on October 15, 1989 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England to a Nigerian mother, Yeta Odusanya and a Nigerian father with Irish ancestry, Robert Joshua. His Nigerian background is traced to the Ijebu group of the Yoruba people in Ogun state. It was also discovered that he has an aristocratic rank among his people.
Anthony Joshua spent some part of his early life in Nigeria and attended Mayflower school, Ikenne in Ogun state, where he was enrolled as a boarding student.
As an adult, Joshua never forgot his Nigerian roots and even has a tattoo of the African continent with the outline of the Nigerian territory drawn on his shoulder.
In 2001, when Joshua was 12, his parents got divorced and he had to return to the UK to join them in Kings Langley Secondary school halfway through Year seven.
During this time, he grew up on the Meriden Estate in Garston, Hertfordshire. Here friends and teachers called him “Femi” coined from his middle name, “Oluwafemi”.
He played sports like football and athletics in school and excelled at them. He even broke the school’s year nine 100m record with a time of 11.6 seconds.
Career
Anthony Joshua never thought of taking boxing or sports as a career. In fact he was a bricklayer before taking up boxing as a career. He eventually took it up at the age of 18, when his cousin Ben Ileyemi encouraged him to take it up. This was why he was usually referred to as a late starter in sport. Ben Ileyemi was also a professional boxer who made his debut together with Anthony Joshua in 2013.
Joshua began training and joined the Finchley ABC club in Barnet, North London, known for being home to professional heavyweight Derek Chisora.
In 2009, two years after taking up boxing as a career, Joshua won the Haringey Box cup. He competed again in 2010 and won. That same year, he won the senior ABA championships in his 18th bout. This success made him to be awarded a sum of £50,000 to turn professional which he declined. When asked why he declined the money, he explained that he didn’t take up boxing for money, but for medals. The following year, he won the tournament again.
The domestic success in 2010 earned him a place on the GB boxing team. He also became a British amateur champion at the GB championships after defeating Amin Isa that same year.
In 2011, his career saw a growth when he competed at the European Championships to beat German and Irishman boxers. He was then named Amateur Boxer of the year by the boxing writer club of Great Britain. His amateur career saw a record of 40-3.
The award saw Joshua featuring in the Olympics, thereby becoming popular being a novice on the international scene.
By July, 2013, Joshua was confirmed a professional boxer under the match room sport promotional banner. His professional debut was then held in October of the same year. The early fights he had during this period were won by either knockouts or technical knockouts. This endeared him to fans of boxing in addition to his humility and calmness displayed in the ring.
Apart from professional fights, Joshua also fought to win commonwealth heavyweight titles and British titles to become British and Commonwealth Champions.

Family
Although Anthony Joshua claimed he had little time to date, he was known to have had a relationship with a dancer, Nicole Walker. He was with her for several years and even bought her a £500,000 luxury penthouse. Anthony Joshua has a son, Joseph Joshua “JJ” with the dancer Nicole, in 2015. Since his break up with Nicole, the British star hasn’t indicated any sign of settling down with someone soon.
