Bayern Munich director Oliver Kahn has admitted that the club is close to signing Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.
The Bundesliga club is looking for a defender with leadership, loudness, and presence.
“We’re happy with the quality we have at center-back,” Kahn said.
“But we can improve when it comes to leadership, loudness and presence.”
Chelsea’s top defensive target this summer is De Ligt, as Thomas Tuchel seeks replacements for Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
De Ligt is worth closer to €100 million (£86 million) to Juventus, about £10 million more than Ajax paid three years ago.
