Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said sensitive electoral materials will in the meantime no longer be kept in the custody of the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) while responding to questions concerning elections in Abuja.
According to Mr Yakubu, the move is to ensure that electoral materials are not tampered with or compromised in any way.
The INEC chairman also mentioned that the new move will take effect starting with the Ekiti State gubernatorial election.
There have been concerns in recent times about whether the CBN can be trusted following the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele’s interest in the 2023 presidential election.
