The Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released video of the attack on Abuja’s Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje.
Terrorists stormed the prison around 10 p.m. Tuesday night, staying for more than two hours.
The attackers used bombs, grenades, and assault weapons to storm the government building.
In the video, insurgents can be heard celebrating after breaking into the facility, and some vehicles are seen on fire.
The incursion of the penitentiary freed several convicted terrorists and other hardened criminals.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed that 443 of the 879 inmates who escaped from the facility have been apprehended.
According to Umar Abubakar, the facility’s public relations officer, 551 inmates are currently housed there, with four dead and 16 injured.
