Career
Savage competed in the UK version of The X Factor in 2006 and made it to the final 24 but was eliminated as the 12th contestant. She struggled to handle the spotlight while taking part. She stated: “You have to always realize that people are watching. When I got the bad news that I wasn’t getting through [to the final 12] it was a really painful time. But you still have to learn how to hold that until you get home. Because you don’t want to just let everything out. People admire you and want to see that you’re strong; they don’t want to see you breaking down.”
In 2009, Savage agreed to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing that would allow her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia, Monica and Mýa. She has received composition credit for her involvement in Monica’s soulful ballad “Catch Me.”
In 2010, she received a Grammy nomination for her collaboration with Fantasia on the song “Collard Greens & Cornbread.” Jaicko’s “Oh Yeah,” featuring Snoop Dogg, and Deluna’s “Push Push,” featuring Akon, were both written by Savage. She sang backup vocals on Whitney Houston’s album I Look to You (2009). Savage returned to Nigeria in 2012, inspired by the expansion of the Nigerian music business, and signed with Mavin Records.

Controversy
A leaked sex tape of Tiwa Savage and her lover was made public to contain vaginal intercourse with Savage as a participant and an unidentified male partner on October 19, 2021.
