Chelsea to sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona in a swap deal

Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, has entered the race to sign Manchester United flop Memphis Depay from Barcelona in a possible deal.

According to the Mail, Barcelona is willing to offer right-back Sergino Dest and Depay in exchange for Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.

While Chelsea allowed Antonio Rudiger to join Real Madrid for free this summer, Barcelona has already signed Stamford Bridge center-back Andreas Christensen.

Azpilicueta and Alonso are nearing the end of their contracts. This is most likely Thomas Tuchel’s final opportunity to get something in exchange for the pair.

Dest, 21, has previously been linked with Chelsea and would provide good competition for Reece James on the right wing.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is eager to sign marquee players in his first summer in charge, and the club has been linked with moves for Raheem Sterling and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Sterling deal is said to be nearing completion, while talks with Ronaldo are still ongoing.

Depay, 28, struggled at Old Trafford from 2015 to 2017, scoring just two league goals.
